  1. During which years were you an active member of BPA?
I was a participant of postsecondary BPA from 2010-2014, going to nationals four times and competing in events such as Desktop Publishing and Video Production Team. While in college, I volunteered to be a photographer and judge for secondary regional events. I was then invited to volunteer for Michigan'S secondary state leadership conference, leading to my current roles as contract photographer, judge, and presenter.

  2. What was your most memorable moment or achievement during your time in BPA, and why does it stand out to you?
I have several memorable achievements during my time as a participant and volunteer. As a volunteer, my favorite was delivering my first motivational presentation at a state leadership conference in front of over 200 secondary students. I had worked hard to create and practice an exciting presentation about career development. I received recognition from Michigan BPA after my presentation noting that it received “rave reviews.” While a student, I am proud to have received second place at the National Leadership Conference for Video Production Team my senior year.

  3. Can you share your current profession and how your experience with BPA shaped your career path?
My career has been uniquely integrated with BPA. I am the owner of Boldly Told Video, a small photo and video production team in Michigan. Boldly Told Video offers photo/video services for events, branding, and communications. BPA has been the ideal client for us, offering new opportunities for further collaboration and being a testbed for my career. For example, my team offered new services to BPA in 2018 and 2022 which are now regular services we provide to other organizations. Capturing the excitement of BPA is a blast. I am proud to consider Boldly Told Video and myself a part of the BPA family.

  4. What advice or words of wisdom would you offer to current BPA members who are looking to make the most of their experience and prepare for their futures?
To current BPA participants, I say “dig deep.” Don’t be afraid to get the most out of BPA. Ask peers and advisors for feedback to improve your work, especially on technical aspects. I also encourage anyone to run for office at the chapter, state, or national level. Investigate the options and consider the professional growth that is possible as a council officer. There is a role in BPA for everyone.

Lastly, practice ways to effectively explain (for example, in a job interview) what BPA was to you specifically and how it helped prepare you for your career. BPA is part of your story.
