Business Professionals of America (BPA) is pleased to announce that four students from Eastland Career Center in Ohio have earned top honors in the organization’s first-ever Students Recruiting Students video contest sponsored by Avidity Creates|MasterMIND Productions.
The team of Jazzmin Days, Jayla Neal, Malcom Harrell and Jonathan Pinkerton learned that their video was selected during the organization’s National Virtual Celebration held virtually in late Spring. The team’s winning video has just been released to coincide with the start of the organization’s new membership year so it is available for chapter recruitment efforts nationwide.
The contest, designed for teams of 2-5 students, was open to all three divisions of student membership--Middle Level, Secondary and Post-secondary--and focused on the creation of a student recruitment-style video promoting BPA. According to the sponsors, the promotional video should tell the story of our organization, what it’s about, how students benefit from being involved, and promote Business Professionals of America to a large audience of students ranging from Middle Level through College.
“We received so many creative submissions and thoroughly enjoyed every single one,” said Kenia Thompson, Director of Communications for MasterMIND Productions. “What really stuck out for us with this team’s video, though, were the various elements that created their story and kept us engaged throughout. This team showed and displayed what it means to be a BPA member throughout the complete process.”
Thompson also noted that some of what the team implemented in their winning video are elements that are in line with what is currently being done by professionals in the industry.
In addition to their video being added to the BPA resource library, as the winners of the contest, the team earned a $500 financial award, an exclusive virtual workshop on “The Art of Storytelling”, and virtual mentorship by the agency for the coming year.
“We were in our comfort zone planning and filming this video and also telling our story,” said student Malcom Harrell. “But there was a lot of time that went in to planning our approach for this video and working on a schedule to capture both A and B roll.”
As many schools across the country continue to re-imagine classroom learning due to COVID-19, an increased use of social media, virtual communications and recruitment videos will likely become more widely used by student clubs and organizations this year. Whether students are meeting in person, virtually, or through a hybrid approach, continuing engagement in student organizations such as Business Professionals of America offers those who join an avenue for networking, social engagement, service learning and leadership development opportunities. All of these offerings can help keep students empowered and inspired while expanding upon daily classroom learning.
“The mission of Business Professionals of America is to develop and empower student leaders to discover their passion and change the world by creating unmatched opportunities in learning, professional growth and service,” said BPA Executive Director Dr. LouAnn Ross. “Having partners like Avidity Creates and MasterMIND Productions support our students truly speaks to our organization’s mission. This video was so well done, the message was right on target and it really tells the story of the BPA experience! I can’t wait to share it with our members and partners.”
