What are you doing in your career now, and how did you get there?
I am an attorney practicing business, intellectual property, and privacy law. My career path began when I took a job as a legal secretary at a local law firm, which my BPA advisor connected me with through my chapter’s internship program. That opportunity helped me take my first steps into the legal field and begin building the foundation for my career.
What are some of your favorite memories of being a BPA member?
One of my favorite memories was serving as a state officer for the great state of Minnesota. Being involved in state leadership gave me meaningful opportunities to grow, contribute to the organization, and connect with others who shared my passion for BPA.
What events did you compete in during BPA?
I competed in Entrepreneurship and Business Law & Ethics, including participating in the 2018 pilot program for Business Law & Ethics. These experiences gave me opportunities to explore my interests in business and law while developing skills that would prove valuable in my future career.
What were some valuable skills you gained through BPA, and how have they helped you in your career?
Two skills I developed through BPA are public speaking and critical thinking. Both foundational skills now set me up for success in my practice, allowing me to communicate effectively with clients and help them resolve their matters efficiently. These skills continue to be an important part of my work as an attorney.
What was your proudest accomplishment during BPA?
Attending the National Leadership Conference twice and receiving the Student of the Year award were among my proudest accomplishments. These experiences were meaningful milestones in my BPA journey and gave me opportunities to celebrate my growth and involvement in the organization.
What is one piece of career advice you wish you had known as a BPA member?
Be intentional with your time. Focus on activities or career pathways that bring you genuine fulfillment, not just what you think others expect of you. It is important to explore your interests, make thoughtful decisions, and pursue opportunities that align with what matters most to you.
Who had the biggest impact on your BPA journey, and why?
My high school BPA advisor, Vicki Kapaun, and the entire Minnesota BPA conference team, including Jackie Schiller, Danny Spors, Sean Hayes, and so many more, made a profound impact on my BPA journey. Their encouragement supported me throughout my time in BPA, and they continue to cheer me on
